3 Must-Haves to Plan on a Budget (for Under $10)

The planning craze is here to stay, but let’s face it, this trend is definitely for those with pennies to spare. With all the stickers, pens, inserts, binders, discs, and other “must-haves,” it’s easy to build up debt and lose control. Since I am focusing on financial health in the upcoming year, it’s essential for me to watch where my money goes. That means, utilizing the things that I have in my house to plan on a budget more feasible.

With that in mind, here is my list of must-haves for planning on a budget.

Spiral notebooks are a great way to get started. Most of us have them lying around, and if you don’t, you can get a pack of 5 notebooks pretty cheaply. A one-subject spiral notebook with college-ruled lines makes a great DIY planner or Bullet Journal. It’s an inexpensive way to test various planning methods.

All you need is a pen that writes well and doesn’t smear. It can be a ballpoint pen or a gel pen; the choice is yours. If you like to color code your planners, there’s nothing better than the tried-and-true BIC 4-color ballpoint pen of my youth. I love these pens, and although I have some Japanese ones as well, I keep the BICS on-hand because they are so reliable. You can also try erasable pens or Sharpie pens as well.

Correction Tape

Seriously, this stuff is a life saver. My favorite is Tombow Mono as there is also an eraser on the other end and the cartridges are replaceable. You will inevitably doze off while brain dumping and will need to recover that lost space. It’s just smart to keep this handy.

There you go; your Planner starter pack for under $10.

A spiral notebook, a pen, and correction tape with writing that reads "3 Must Haves to Plan on a Budget (for Under $10)."
