The Sims 4: Midlife Renaissance Challenge Overview

Introduction
I created this challenge because I’m 47 and about 4 years ago I began to feel the weight of the grind. I left teaching for the second time after my husband and I almost died due to medical bias. I began to think about what life would look like if I did what I enjoyed rather than what people wanted from me.
The Sims 4 is my "work shit out" game, so I began to play around with different challenges. But I wanted to play something that felt more hopeful and less like I was looking back on life with regret. So I asked, "what would you do if you could do anything you wanted?"
Middle age is about discovering who we are outside of the demands of society. It’s often when we begin to embrace our true selves and step away from the “work-horse” mentality that we discover happiness.
I created this challenge to explore various gameplay features of The Sims 4, while giving my Sims concrete goals to achieve with the sole purpose of becoming their true self.
Some things to know:
- If you are a streamer and/or Long Play video creator like me, there is an Season and Episode guide to help you plan your play.
- There are very detailed and explicit guidelines for other AuDHD/ADHDers who struggle to figure out what to do next when playing.
- I created a pretty impressive spreadsheet tracker using Google Sheets. I love a good spreadsheet.
- There are variations to the family creation and to the gameplay
- The only pack that is required is Get Together (you need it for clubs)
I hope you enjoy! Feel free to tag me on Threads or BlueSky if you are playing. You can also find me other places.

Challenge Overview
The Renaissance Challenge is for The Sims 4 (although you can probably play with any Sims game or Inzoi). It's about second chances, personal growth, and living a life you want and not one others have dictated.
The challenge follows primarily your main Sim's journey, taking place over 50+ episodes across 5 seasons.
Your Primary Sim and their very supportive partner (see Variations below) are entering a new stage of life. After chasing their professional dreams and finding life wasn't what they had hoped, they sold their belongings and moved to a new town, purchasing a starter home and vowing to live a life more authentic and better aligned with their goals.
You will start with a modest home (under 20,000 simoleon lot value). Once you have purchased your lot, you can use cheats to set your household funds to the amount shown below depending on how many sims are living at home.
- 15,000 Simoleans (1 sim)
- 25,000 Simoleans (2 sims)
- 35,000 Simoleans (3 sims)
- 45, 000 Simoleans (4 sims)
- You do not get additional money for sims not living in the house (college students, adult children, etc.).
Be sure to document your journey through screenshots or storytelling. See the Tracking Your Progress section for more tips/ideas.

Gameplay Tips
Create your Sim's Backstory using:
- Life Manager Mod to create a Family Tree
- Use Mc Command Center or another mod like Smart Sim Randomizer to generate skills/degrees so your sim is not starting from scratch.
- Turn off bills using MC Command Center or some other mod. Sims are only responsible for in-game purchases. Let's call that Simneversal Income.
